Free Virtual Gala (10/22/20) for Law Student Scholarships Presented by La Raza Lawyers of Santa Clara County Charitable Foundation

October 14, 2020 by Daniel S. Gonzales Leave a Comment

la raza lawyers of Santa ClaraAhora más que nunca—now more than ever—law students who seek to further the cause of justice need our support. While La Raza Lawyers of Santa Clara County Charitable Foundation cannot hold our usual fundraising gala this year for obvious reasons, we will still provide as much financial aid to deserving law students as we can. To that end, we have set a fundraising goal of $80,000. We ask for your help to hit that target.

A global pandemic. Massive unemployment and economic uncertainty. An overdue renewed focus on the effects of undeniable systemic racism and inequality in our country. This is not the year that any of us planned. But for those of us privileged with the resources to make a real difference, this is the moment we have been given, to share what we have and invest in a better tomorrow.

The Board of La Raza Lawyers of Santa Clara County Charitable Foundation, on which I sit, reaffirms its commitment to the law students to whom we offer succor—students who, along with their families, are living this year’s pain in measures that reveal the inequities of our country. Despite our economic challenges, we have already funded a $7,500 externship with the California Supreme Court and a $5,000 fellowship with the Santa Clara University Law School Katherine & George Alexander Community Law Center. And with your assistance, we aim to award our $20,000 scholarship once again, along with as many more awards as our fundraising success will allow.

Since we are able to cover this year’s reduced fundraising expenses with reserves, 100% of this year’s contributions will go to Bay Area law students with a demonstrated history of furthering the cause of universal justice. Our sponsorship levels remain as in years past (Platinum $10,000; Gold $7,500; Silver $5,000, and Bronze $2,500), with recognition moving online—not only on our website and social media but also in regular communications and events throughout the summer and a free online-only event on October 22, 2020. We also welcome individual one-time and recurring contributions in any amount.
